The 30-man provisional squad of West Indies for the World T20 Championship 2014 has been named. There are not too many surprising inclusions or exclusions in the squad. Almost all the current big names of Caribbean cricket are in there.
West Indies had won the last World T20 Championship which was played in Sri Lanka and they will be one of the favourites this year as well.
However, the Caribbean side has not been slotted in an easy group. In their very first match in the tournament, they will face India which is not a weak team by any stretch of imagination especially in the subcontinent conditions. Their next match will be against one of the qualifiers and then, they will lock horns with two of the semi finalists of the last edition i.e. Australia and Pakistan. Mirpur will be hosting all these matches.
To make the semis, West Indies will have to be in top 2 in their group at the end of the preliminary round. The semis will be played on the 3rd and the 4th of April respectively, while the final will take place a couple of days later i.e. on 6th.
Here is the West Indies’ provisional squad for the tournament-
